Pupkin Pie Syrup
- 1 cup Pumpkin butter store-bought
- 1 cup Water
- 3 tbsp Maple syrup
Cocktail
- 1.5 oz Burbon
- 1 oz Pumpkin pie syrup
- 3 dashes Angostura or orange bitters
- Ice cubes
- Cinnamon stick and anise for garnish
Make the Pumpkin Spice Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the pumpkin butter, water, and 3 tablespoons of pure maple syrup. Heat until the mixture becomes smooth and pourable (about 10 minutes). Strain through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer while still warm. Allow the syrup to cool. This is enough syrup to make about 8 cocktails.Assemble the Cocktail: Place a large ice cube in a rocks glass. Pour in 1 ½ ounces of bourbon. Add 1 ounce of the pumpkin spice syrup, along with a couple of dashes of Angostura bitters. Stir thoroughly to combine.Finish with Garnish: Garnish with a star anise and a cinnamon stick.
- Any bourbon can be used.
- Large ice cubes are best because they will melt slowly and prevent dilution of your cocktail.
- A sugared rim can be added to the glass. I coated the edge of the glass with a little maple syrup and added brown sugar.
