Guide To Clean Eating

Simple Ways to Start Clean Eating

Living a healthier lifestyle through clean eating is increasing in popularity among all age- groups in today’s world. From baby boomers to Millenials, everyone is looking for ways to eat cleaner in a bid to improve their overall health. However, with the incredibly delicious foods that are topping the menus across America make it particularly hard to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Regardless, with a little determination and a lot of planning, it is possible to eat cleaner. In a bid to give you a push in the right direction, we’ve highlighted the top things that should always make it to your grocery list.

Vegetables

Vegetables are not only low in calories, but they are also loaded with vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients. For instance, they are rich in negative ions that are imperative when it comes to boosting overall health and well- being. There are a variety to choose from and are great for adding flavor and color to your plate.

From kale, spinach and tomatoes to celery, vegetables are the best way to start leading a healthier lifestyle.

Fruits

Fruits, just like vegetables, are high in negative ions that reduce and fight off free radicals. The best way to add fruits to your diet is by purchasing fresh fruits from the nearest grocery store or market.

You also have the choice of canned, dried or frozen fruits. If you have to purchase them, always check that they do not have any preservatives or additives such as sugar.

Fruit juices

are often loaded with sugar and artificial flavors that can get in the way of clean eating. So, if you have to drink fruit juices purchased from stores, always check the ingredients. Preferably, make fresh juice from fruits right at the comfort of your home.

Proteins

The best sources of protein are lean meat such as ground beef and even certain parts of a chicken such as the chicken thigh. Other great sources of protein include different types of fish such as Salmon and tuna, as well as eggs.

Nuts and Seeds

Today, we have a great selection of nuts and seeds that are widely available to the public. From Chia seeds, flaxseeds and almonds to cashew nuts and walnuts, we can easily add them to our smoothies, salads and soups.

Whole Grains

Whole grains such as Quinoa, oats and millet are extremely rich in nutrients that are beneficial to the body. Choosing to purchase whole- grains from an organic store or market is always preferable. If you have to purchase whole- grain products from stores, then stick to the whole-wheat versions that have no additives or preservatives in them.

For flour, look for choices such as chickpea, almond, coconut, buckwheat and oats are great options.

Condiments, Spices and Natural Sweeteners

If you love spices, stick to the fresh ones. There are a number of other condiments and sweeteners that are not clean. Hence, while purchasing some, you need to be careful.

For instance, making fresh ketchup from home is preferable, and cleaner than using store-bought ketchup. If you are unsure about whether your salt is clean, you can never go wrong with Sea Salt and Pink Himalayan Salt.

The crucial factor that can facilitate clean eating is always checking the labels of products before purchasing them. Admittedly, not everything might be clean, but when unsure, go for fresh products instead of preserved ones.
