Mediterranean Spring Herb Whipped Feta Dip

As a nutrition consultant and chef, I’m always looking for recipes that are easy but taste like you fussed over them for hours. This spring herb whipped feta is the top of the deliciousness scale! It’s one of those dishes that feels fancy enough for a mezze platter, yet simple enough to whip up between emails and dog walks.

I grew up in Poland eating lots of twaróg and crumbly cheeses, but when I discovered feta, especially the traditional one from sheep, I fell hard. I love feta because it’s salty, tangy, and beautifully crumbly. It instantly transports me to the Mediterranean diet lifestyle: long lunches, fresh spring herbs, olive oil flowing generously, and food shared on a sunny patio.

This Mediterranean whipped feta dip is creamy, bright, and packed with lemon zest, mint, and briny capers. It’s a healthy party dip that feels light and fresh yet indulgent. The best part? It comes together in 10 minutes, no cooking required. If you need an easy Mediterranean appetizer or a quick Mediterranean party dip that everyone hovers around, this is it.

Ingredients for Mediterranean Spring Herb Whipped Feta Dip

  • Soft feta: I use soft feta packed in brine because it blends into a luxurious, creamy feta dip. It gives that signature salty bite and depth. The traditional sheep’s milk feta adds more character, making this bright and creamy feta spread taste authentic.
  • Cream cheese: Just a little transforms it into a dreamy, creamy feta spread for sandwiches or crackers. It balances the tang and makes the whipped feta dip recipe extra smooth.
  • Greek yogurt: Whipped feta with Greek yogurt adds lightness and a subtle tang. It keeps the dip from feeling heavy and makes it feel light and fresh, like a spring dip recipe.
  • Lemon zest: This is where the magic happens. Lemon zest adds vibrant oils, making this lemon herb feta dip pop. It’s what turns it into a true spring appetizer with feta cheese.
  • Lemon juice: Fresh lemon juice adds brightness and enhances the tangy flavor. It’s essential for that whipped feta dip with lemon and dill vibe, even if we’re using mint here.
  • Green olives: I love combining both for complexity. They add richness and that unmistakable Mediterranean soul. They also make this feta dip with olive oil feel complete.
  • Capers: Capers bring little bursts of briny flavor. They deepen the savory notes and make this Mediterranean dip with fresh herbs feel layered and interesting.
  • Red pepper flakes: Just a pinch for warmth. Not spicy, just enough to wake up your palate.
  • Olive oil: A generous drizzle makes the texture silky and luscious. Good olive oil elevates this to whipped feta for charcuterie board status.
  • Mint: Fresh mint makes this a fresh herb feta dip and a true savory spring appetizer. It adds coolness and contrast to the salty cheese.

How to Make Mediterranean Spring Herb Whipped Feta Dip

  • Add the soft feta, cream cheese, and Greek yogurt to a food processor. Blend until completely smooth and fluffy. Scrape down the sides so everything incorporates evenly.
  • Add lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and red pepper flakes. Blend again until airy and creamy.
  • Fold in finely chopped capers, olives, and fresh mint. I like to pulse briefly so you still get little flecks of texture.
  • Spoon into a shallow bowl, swirl the top with the back of a spoon, drizzle with more olive oil, and sprinkle extra herbs, capers and olives. That’s it. Your 5-minute whipped feta is ready.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Soft feta – You can use a block of firmer feta, but you might have to use more Greek yogurt to make it smooth.
  • Cream cheese – Swap with more Greek yogurt for a lighter version
  • Greek yogurt – any other plain yogurt will do.
  • Mint – Substitute with fresh dill for a feta and dill dip variation
  • Capers – Try chopped artichokes for a milder briny note
  • Olives – Skip, use kalamata olives or replace with sun-dried tomatoes for a sweeter twist
  • You can also drizzle a little bit of raw honey on the top to balance flavor.

Chef Angie’s Tips

  • Let the feta sit at room temperature before blending for the creamiest texture
  • Always zest the lemon before juicing it
  • Don’t skip the olive oil drizzle on top, it adds flavor and visual appeal
  • For a whipped feta dip for Easter brunch, top with edible flowers and extra herbs
  • Make it slightly thicker if using as a creamy feta spread for sandwiches

Ways To Serve

This is my go-to easy spring appetizer idea when friends stop by unexpectedly. It feels elevated but takes almost no effort.
