Dragon Fruit Gin Spritz Cocktail

There are few ingredients and they are easy to find at the store. Plus, let’s face it. Sometimes, you need a pop of color and magic in your glass. That’s where this Dragon Fruit Gin Spritz comes in—a refreshing, vibrant cocktail with tropical vibes and a beautiful color that’s just made for your next “open cart” moment. Whether you’re scrolling through the next trendy TikTok make, or simply searching for a deliciously different dragon fruit cocktail, this one is calling your name.

What I love most is how this drink fits right into modern entertaining—it’s casual enough for a backyard cookout but striking enough to impress at a dinner party. For those who enjoy trying new seasonal flavors or simply want something different, this is a great choice. Want even more ways to show off dragon fruit? As you probably already know, I love Mexico, and I first tried a dragon fruit cocktail in Tulum, Mexico. The bartender mixed fresh dragon fruit with mezcal, lime juice, and a lavender-infused syrup. It was refreshing, vibrant, and totally hit the spot. When I got back home, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. After some trial and error and experimenting with different ingredients (and a few messy, gin-filled afternoons), I came up with my own version: a dragon fruit gin spritz that’s easy to make, looks fantastic, and tastes even better.

As a chef and nutrition consultant, I’m always thinking about how to create indulgent recipes that are healthier, especially for my clients who are navigating hormonal balance, energy dips, and sugar sensitivities. Cocktails are joy-makers, but they don’t have to come with junk. This drink includes fresh dragon fruit, citrus, and botanicals like lavender and Indigo Empress Gin, which has no added sugar or artificial dyes. You’re not just sipping a cocktail—you’re treating yourself to a glass of vibrant wellness with a side of tropical paradise.

If you want a non-alcoholic way to enjoy these perks, try my Dragon Fruit Lemonade Recipe—it’s loaded with the same good-for-you benefits and just as thirst-quenching.

  • Sweetener
  • Dragon fruit puree
  • Indigo Empress Gin
  • Lime juice
  • Lemon juice

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Dragon fruit simple syrup—You won’t find it in the store, so you need to make it, or you can just muddle frozen dragon fruit in the glass.
  • Empress Gin—Any botanical gin works, but you’ll miss the color drama! You can also substitute with prosecco.
  • Lavender bitters – Try orange or grapefruit bitters if that’s what you have.
  • Lime/Lemon juice—You can use just one if that’s all you have, but the combo is magical. Orange juice would also work.

Empress 1908 gets its stunning indigo color from butterfly pea flower—a natural botanical that changes color depending on pH. Add citrus, and watch your cocktail magically shift from deep blue to vibrant pink or purple. It’s science meets happy hour.

How to Make Dragon Fruit Gin Spritz

  • Make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine chopped red fresh dragon fruit, equal parts water, and sweetener. Simmer gently until the fruit breaks down, about 10 minutes. Strain and cool.
  • Prep the fruit: Cut the dragon fruit in half and scoop out the flesh. Cube a few pieces for muddling, reserving some for garnish.
  • Muddle: In your shaker, muddle 2–3 tablespoons of cubed dragon fruit with a splash of simple syrup.
  • Add spirits and juice: Pour in 2 oz gin, ½ oz simple syrup, and ½ oz lime or lemon juice (if using). Add a handful of ice.
  • Shake: Shake briskly for 10 seconds to combine and chill.
  • Strain: Strain into an ice-filled glass, using a fine mesh strainer for a smooth finish.
  • Top with bubbles: Pour in 3–4 oz sparkling water gently to keep things fizzy.
  • Garnish: Add a wheel of dragon fruit, a sprig of mint, or an edible flower.

Benefits of Botanicals

  • Dragon fruit is packed with antioxidants like vitamin C and betalains, which support skin health and immune function.
  • Citrus juices (lime and lemon) help detoxify and boost electrolytes and vitamin C.
  • Lavender bitters have calming effects and are great for managing stress and tension.
  • Botanical gin like Empress often contains juniper, which can support digestion and reduce bloating.
  • Sparkling water keeps you hydrated, helping to prevent the dehydration spike often caused by alcohol.

Chef Angie’s Tips

  • Use ripe, fresh dragon fruit for the most vivid color.
  • Chill your cocktail glass for 10 minutes in the freezer before serving.
  • Don’t skip the garnish—it turns your drink into a mini tropical paradise.
  • Make the syrup and puree ahead and keep it in the fridge for quick assembly.
  • This is also great as a mocktail—just leave out the gin and double the sparkling water.

Ways to Serve Dragon Fruit Cocktail

  • Serve in stemless glasses with bamboo straws for an eco-chic picnic.
  • Make a big batch in a pitcher with citrus wheels and frozen dragon fruit cubes.
  • Serve in champagne flutes for a tropical brunch.
  • Pair it with ceviche, fresh sushi, or grilled shrimp tacos.

Storage

  • Simple syrup: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
  • Dragon fruit puree: Store up to 3 days in the fridge.
  • Assembled cocktails should be served immediately for the best fizz and flavor.
